Ceaseless Meditation
Meditation has become a very popular practice yet many find the fruit of meditation difficult to see when it comes to day to day living. As one lives involved in making money, caring for children, the home, and all the concerns of modern life, it is easy to use meditation as a time to escape, a time to forget the activities, bills, responsibilities, all of the concerns of life and to finally simply be quiet. While this is certainly a benefit to ones ability to cope, relax and live a productive life, it is not the primary purpose of meditation. Meditation involves leaving the noise and activity of life behind while entering into the total stillness of the inner world which transcends the mind. In this stillness one enters into a state of supreme quiet. A quiet that leaves behind all human impressions of the word as we know it, this silence involves shutting down the lower senses while opening up to the realization of a whole world inside. When we think of going inside it is sometimes difficult to relate to a place inside which is very different from that of mind or the ordinary state of consciousness. Yet it exists for the soul on the quest, yet it is only found by those who have the will to let go and bring God into his/her life. Those who look at meditation as a spiritual discipline must come to realize that this is the most serious pursuit humanly possible. It surpasses every other discipline because it takes you into self discovery with the ultimate goal of self realization. A true spiritual discipline involves commitment to meditation. This doesn't mean meditation happens once or twice a week but daily. Those who have the strength to empower this quest will find their life is full of self discovery. As this aspect of the search takes hold it is time to learn the other aspects of the quest which is necessary for real self awakening. The next phase of the discipline is called Ceaseless meditation. When one meditates he/she goes inside and simply observes what is taking place and in the process of letting go one enters deeper into the silence. When an individual has mastered the beginning stages of quiet and stillness, the next step is to expand this meditation into a ceaseless expansion of this same practice. While many will think this is impossible or impractical, trust me, it is an essential stage of the awakening. Email questions to: Gloria [Home]
